Colquitt County Board of Assessors
Mack W. Dekle Jr., Chairman
Rebecca Dupree, Member
Chuck Brooks, Member

Purpose:  Operating under the Georgia Revenue Codes, the Board of Assessors is responsible for the appraisal and assessment of all Residential, Commercial, and Personal Property in Colquitt County.  Property is appraised at 100% of its fair market value and assessed at 40% of that value.

The Board of Assessors is a three-member body of appointed citizens of Colquitt County, serving on a part-time basis, who meet on Monday and Wednesday of each week unless otherwise posted.  They are appointed by the Colquitt County Board of Commissioners and operate autonomously.  A Chairman and secretary are elected by the assessors on an annual basis.  The Board of Assessors hires a Chief Appraiser to administer the functions of the Property Appraisal and Assessment Administration.

All public information is available for review, and copies may be obtained for a nominal fee.  We are located in the Courthouse Annex Building at 101 East Central Avenue, 1st floor, Moultrie, GA, 31768.

Real Estate Property Tax Returns are received in the Assessors office from January 1st to April 1st.  You may file a property return if you feel your appraised value is incorrect.  You are required to file a property tax return during return season if in the previous year your property was created as the result of a subdivision of a larger property, or an improvement (new construction) was made to your property.

Please Note:  If you are required to file a property tax return, you must do so by April 1st.  All returns must be POSTMARKED by the U.S. Postal Service no later than April 1st.

Personal Property Tax Returns are received in the Assessors office from January 1st to April 1st.  You are responsible for reporting all taxable personal property.  Failure to do so will result in penalties being assessed against you.  If you own a business, airplane, or boat and/or motor you must file a return.  As a courtesy, return forms are mailed.  However, failure to receive the forms from us by mail does not relieve you of the responsibility of filing the return.  the forms can be requested by calling the personal property division at 229-616-7425 or 229-668-8312.  All returns must be postmarked by the U.S. Postal Service no later than April 1st.

Assessment Notices are mailed out to property owners yearly.  An opportunity to appeal is afforded and is explained in detail in the notice.
